Description

European Nightcrawlers, commonly known as ENC, Catchall, Crawlers, or Euros, are a versatile worm species suitable for composting, fishing bait, and wildlife rehabilitation. They share many traits with African Nightcrawlers, Red Wigglers, and Tiger Worms, but are slightly larger in size.

These worms are highly efficient composters, capable of consuming up to half of their body weight in organic material each day, helping to break down food scraps and garden waste quickly. While Red and Tiger worms are often the most popular compost worms, European Nightcrawlers are an excellent alternative thanks to their larger size and strong appetite, allowing them to digest even more material.

European Nightcrawlers thrive in temperatures between 15°C and 25°C, but can tolerate a wider range from 7°C to 35°C. If temperatures fall below 7°C, they should be protected from cold conditions.

These worms will happily consume decomposing organic matter such as leaves, garden waste, food scraps and leftovers. For healthy worm activity, ensure their bedding remains moist, neutral in pH, and not overly hot or acidic.

European Nightcrawlers are also excellent fishing bait for both freshwater and saltwater fishing. One of their advantages is their resilience — they do not necessarily require refrigeration and can survive well in suitable conditions. However, if you want to extend their lifespan for future fishing trips, they can be refrigerated at 7–9°C, which may keep them alive for up to three months.
